My masquerade themed hair choice is quite
an extravagant one and it took quite a bit of effort (and resources)
to produce but I have to say I'm pleased with the finished piece.
The hairstyle that I came up with was
inspired by a few images that I came across online. There was no specific show
that I had come across having the style.
As I already had an image in my mind
the images below just helped me bring it together.

Demonstration; step-by-step guide
To start with, I needed four bases for my hair 'rings'. Using my aluminium wire, I entwined two strands of it together into a circle. Using two layers instead of one ensured more stability as the wire is quite flexible, and this made it much thicker and sturdier. I repeated this to make four different sized circular bases, an extra-large, a large, a medium and a small.
I then got my sponge bun and opened it apart so that it took the form of a sort of fishing net.
Then I stuffed the net with artificial hair after I back-combed and sprayed it (to add volume).
I took my now stuffed net and stitched it closed to form a doughnut.
Bringing back my wire rings, I stitched the wire onto the bottom of my doughnut according to size. I pulled the net from either side of the wire over the wire as I stitched.
It was then time to cover my tracks. I got four bunches of artificial hair, each with a rubber band securing one end, the size of the ponytail depending on the size of the ring it would be designated to. Taking the end with the rubber band, I pushed the ponytail through the doughnut hole and secured it inside with strong black hair pins. Then I pulled the rest of the ponytail over the outer surface of the ring, spreading it out evenly, and pushed the other (untied) end through the other end of the doughnut, tucking all of it inside the hole before securing it once again with hair pins.I repeated this for all four doughnuts and then attached them, piled on top of each other, using hair pins.
To add a bit of flare from my chosen theme, I accessorised with these
artificial pearl beaded branches.

As they originally came in white, I had to spray-paint them Gold myself but the work was worth it as it looks great and adds a bit of texture.
